Fort Lauderdale attorney Adele I. Stone to begin term as immediate past president of the Foundation

ORLANDO — Fort Lauderdale attorney Adele I. Stone will become the immediate past president of The Florida Bar Foundation July 1.

Stone has been a director on the Foundation’s board since 2000 and is a Fellow of The Florida Bar Foundation, a statewide charitable organization that works to expand access to justice on behalf of Florida’s legal profession. During her term as Foundation president, Stone toured bar associations throughout the state educating lawyers about the work of the Foundation.

Stone earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and her juris doctor from the University of Miami School of Law. She is a shareholder with Atkinson, Diner, Stone, Mankuta & Ploucha, P.A., where she practices predominantly in commercial real estate, general business and corporate fields.

She has chaired The Florida Bar’s Professional Ethics Committee and is a frequent lecturer on ethics. She is also co–chair of the pro bono committee of the Real Property Probate & Trust Law Section (RPPTL).

As a member of the steering committee of Florida Attorneys Saving Homes (FASH), Stone is actively engaged in recruiting lawyers to represent homeowners under threat of foreclosure.

FASH is a joint project of The Florida Bar; The Florida Bar Foundation; Florida Legal Services, the RPPTL Section, the Business Law Section; and the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar.

She was named one of 2010’s South Florida Women Extraordinaire by South Florida Business Leader.

Stone was the 2009 recipient of the Russell E. Carlisle Advocacy Award presented by the Legal Aid Service of Broward County Inc. She was also the 2009 recipient of the G. Kirk Haas Humanitarian Award presented by then Florida Bar President John G. White, III.

Stone is also past president of Legal Aid Service of Broward County Inc. and the founder and past chair of its Executive Council, of which she is still a member.

Stone’s community service extends beyond the legal profession. She has chaired the board of the Children’s Home Society of Florida, Intercoastal Division, and has served on the society’s statewide board. In additional, she currently serves as president-elect for the Florida Chapter of the NAIOP, a national commercial real estate association.
